What are you waiting for?

If there is one thing that defines a true entrepreneur, it’s this: we don’t wait for somebody else to fix things.

If there is one thing that defines a true entrepreneur, it's this: we don't wait for somebody else to fix things.

Entrepreneurs are the outliers in this regard.

Think about all the businesses you have worked in across your career. How many hours have you lost on the phone to IT support? Or waiting for somebody to fix a broken process? Waiting for management to make a decision?

In some cases, "waiting" is even built into the business model to the detriment of all stakeholders. Think about all those companies waiting for a customer to complain before fixing a problem or a fault instead of taking decisive action.

All this time spent in limbo adds up, eroding productivity. The average Brit spends the equivalent of two years of their life just waiting, according to research from TalkTalk.

Businesses don't move forward when people wait. They move forward when people take responsibility. The best businesses I've been involved with have people throughout the organisation who see something that could be better and ask:

"What can I do about it right now?"

They don't stick it on their to-do list or, worse, someone else's. They work out the small incremental improvement they can achieve then and there.

According to a recent scientific paper on the power of proactivity, "Entrepreneurs are not passive recipients of external environmental pressures, but are rather co-creators of the environment in which they operate."

This is particularly relevant in the age of AI.

I've recently spent time on the shop floor with customers, watching how people actually work. It's taught me that the greatest productivity wins aren't discovered through a grand AI strategy. They start with someone noticing a repetitive, inefficient process and asking:

"Why are we still doing it this way?"

That's a big part of what we're building at Build Concierge. Technology is important, but technology alone doesn't transform a business. You have to understand the people, processes, and friction, then use technology and AI to make them better.

Technology may be the enabler but initiative has always been the principal catalyst for all change to happen.

You don't have to be an entrepreneur to be entrepreneurial. You don't need permission to think laterally or make the problem your problem. You don't need AI to tell you the answer either, you know how to make things better. Use the AI to accelerate change with you at the helm.

Don't wait for someone else to fix the problem. The world is waiting for you to make the first move.
