Every transformational AI hack starts with this strategy

AI is not a magic wand. There isn’t some whizzy “make my business better” incantation that instantly supercharges growth and efficiency.

AI is not a magic wand. There isn't some whizzy "make my business better" incantation that instantly supercharges growth and efficiency.

As someone who is building a business at the frontline of AI, I have spent two years understanding how this technology can be used, and what makes it really shine. And it all starts with good old-fashioned basic principles: know your process, know your customer, know your goal.

When Build Concierge wins a new customer, we always start the relationship the same way: we walk the shop floor.

The team goes to the company's headquarters, warehouse, factory, Portakabin next to the A64, whatever it may be, and gets to know operations from start to finish. Along the way, we speak to the individuals involved to understand what could be improved and where the bottlenecks lie.

I've chatted to administrators, planners, customer service specialists, supervisors and field engineers. I have followed real jobs from the first enquiry through to scheduling, field delivery, job completion, invoicing and customer follow-up.

There are no shortcuts; you need to get inside a process before you can automate it. Management can explain how a process is supposed to work, but the people completing that process daily know how it actually plays out. This is how we find the onerous manual steps, repeated data entry, disconnected communications and error-prone workarounds that are invisible to senior management.

Here are some real-life examples of what we have uncovered: a customer who failed to invoice for £20,000-worth of work because missing lines on invoices. A business wasting 15 hours on admin each day. Lost work because of missing data fields. Systems only accessible by one lone employee. I could go on and on.

We estimate that a service business turning over an average of £20million a year can expect to see savings to up to £18,500 per month, or £222,000 per year using our technology.

Here's how we break that down:

Work ingest and automatic job creation: £8,200 per month
Scheduling and customer communications: £2,600 per month
Reception and front-desk activity: £2,000 per month
Sales and lead capture: £1,500 per month
Job cards and field data: £1,400 per month

These are only averages. One customer reported growing the business by 35% after adopting Build Concierge, without increasing its back-office headcount. One said that our workflows delivered back 10 times the investment. Another said that our AI job raising technology was "genuinely life changing," saving more than 15 minutes on every job.

And we find these savings in just a few days, plugging into your existing job management and CRM systems so you don't have to change the way you work.

The more we learn, the better our platform gets. When we found out how much time and money was being wasted by office teams trying to order replacement parts, we introduced an AI-powered feature that lets the technician take a picture of the part that needs replacing so that the right one can be ordered instantly.

When we learned that Monday morning had become a living hell for customer service staff, who started their working week with hundreds of missed calls, voicemails and angry emails from the weekend, we gave our Concierge Receptionist the ability to book in jobs and respond to routine enquiries out-of-hours. These same people now spend their Mondays doing work only humans can do: building relationships, solving complex problems, finding new business, and innovating new ways to support customers.

I've never been one to sit in a boardroom or fancy corner office, issuing orders. I have spent my entire career walking my customers' shop floor. It fascinates me that here I am, on my third technology business, building cutting-edge tools in the age of AI, and the shop floor remains the ultimate source of truth, just as it was when I was building businesses 40 years ago.

If you think Build Concierge could help your company reach its goals faster, let us run a shop floor session for you. Let us root out the inefficiencies that are holding you back. It's what we do day in, day out.

Remember, the true genius of AI is only possible when you walk the process.
